Martin Donnelly
Martin Donnelly was born in Belfast on the 26th March 1964. His impresive racing portfolio sees Martin as a former racing driver in F1, F3, F3000 and Formula Ford.
From 1981 to 1985, Martin raced both Formula Ford 1600 and Formula Ford 2000. He gained quick recognition as a successful driver and progressed to Forumla 3 after receiving the prestigious Grovewood award in 1985 and becoming the BBC Grandstand Winter Champion.
Martin won the ‘Cellnet Award for Driver of the Year’ in 1986, after coming third in the British Formula 3 championships. A year later, after beating the best drivers in Europe at the end of season FIA event in Macau, Martin was crowned Formula 3 World Champion.
In 1989, Martin and team mate Jean Alessi raced in F3000 and were signed to Eddie Jordan Racing. In just the first five F3000 races, Martin secured two wins, two seconds, one pole position and a lap record! These successes brought Martin to the attention of Peter Warr at Camel Team Lotus.
